COLOMBIA (AP) – An interim director has been chosen to take over the agency that runs South Carolina’s Medicaid program.
Governor Henry McMaster announced on Wednesday that he had chosen Thomas Clark Phillip Jr. to serve as interim director for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Phillip has served as the agency’s chief financial officer and deputy chief financial officer since joining it in October 2019.
McMaster says Phillip’s experience in healthcare finance is the right choice to lead the department during a transition period. A graduate of Oklahoma State University and a certified public accountant, Phillip served as financial administrator for several public and private health organizations.
Joshua Baker announced in December that he would step down as director this month.
