Another 10 companies were cited for lack of precautions against pandemics in the workplace, according to a press release from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Friday, January 22.
Workplaces have violated COVID-19 safety precautions, such as not having a preparation plan, not enforcing masks, or cleaning and disinfecting facilities.
So far, 67 companies have been cited by MIOSHA for security breaches of COVID-19. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are also penalizing companies that do not follow health orders.
MIOSHA can fine companies up to $ 7,000 per breach.
Employers must provide proof to MIOSHA that the problems have been corrected. Workplaces have 15 business days after receiving the infraction to contest the summons, or they can agree to mitigate the risks with a 50% reduction in penalties on condition that they do not appeal.
Employers and employees with questions about COVID-19 workplace policies can call the MIOSHA hotline at 855-723-3219. To file a claim against a workplace, go to Michigan.gov/MIOSHAcomplaint.
Most of the inspections that gave rise to the 10 citations were triggered by complaints from employees to MIOSHA. Six of the 10 quotes also include fines.
