In the midst of all the nonsense and mischief occurring during Wonder Woman 1984, I totally missed the fact that Gal GadotWonder Woman never used her iconic shield or sword – two things she used in the first film. She wears her magic bow very, but the shield / sword combo never appears. Like everything in cinema, this was a deliberate and star choice Gal Gadot revealed why the Patty Jenkinsthe targeted sequence eliminated Wonder Woman’s weapons.

She is not there to fight. She is a peacemaker. Furthermore, she has the greatest understanding that people are not bad, per se … We are all the same. “
In fact, I think that element is a big reason why the film doesn’t work: it is very naive. Wonder Woman 1984 it operates under the optimistic premise that, at heart, people are genuinely good. And I’m sorry, but … that’s not true. Not at all. And while I appreciate the idea of an optimistic superhero film, optimism in Wonder Woman 1984 it’s a little too much.
In any case, Wonder Woman used her sword and shield on both Batman x Superman and Justice League, two films set after Wonder Woman 1984, then, at some point, the character decides to take them out again. Someday we will have an explanation of this, perhaps in Wonder Woman 3? Or will it simply not be noticed? I think it will be the last one, unless there is a scene in Snyder’s next cut Justice League where Diana talks about using her weapons again.
