ABC’s ‘The Chase’ writers are on strike

The writers behind ABC’s challenging and robust questions The hunt are attacking the show due to a contract dispute. Variety reports that the program’s writing staff, whose trivial questions are attempted by a competitor, as well as “Hunters” Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter (also known as the famous Danger! trio), were not being complied with the Writers Guild of America’s “Basic Minimum Contract”. This agreement is considered quite normal among American gaming programs, regardless of network or longevity. (Danger!, for example, it is one of those programs.) The WGA claims that the program’s producer, ITV America, refused to allow writers to be “represented by the union and receive pension and health benefits, waste and other basic provisions”. ITV America disputes this statement, stating that, despite the “good faith negotiations”, the proposed terms “would economically damage the show”. The hunt recently finished its first season of nine episodes and is in limbo to receive another season renewal. Who knows, maybe Jennings will have another job before it gets cold.
