ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest led the way on Thursday with its annual countdown to the new year, ranking 2.4 in the 18- to 49-year-old adult demographic and 8.37 million viewers in the prime-time part of its broadcast on numbers of affiliate Nielsen Live + Same Day.
Rockin ‘Eve’The numbers only remained stable with the data from last year, with the hour of 22h growing to 3.1 and 10.18 million spectators. But last night’s other schedule fell mostly year after year, with festivities in Times Square silenced by the pandemic. There were only small groups of first socially distant respondents in the crowd to watch artists, including Jennifer Lopez, Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter, before the annual ball launch for the ring in 2021.
NBC came in second overall last night with its NYE content, broadcasting NBC New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly (1.0, 4.41 million), down four tenths in last year’s statement. The network said that the 11:30 to 12:30 part of last night’s broadcast got a rating of 1.9 with 7 million viewers; post-ball drop ratings from other networks were not available. NBC night started with two o’clock Dateline Special 2020 Escape (0.8, 4.35M).
Fox’s new stab at a NYE show, New Year’s Toast and Roast (0.6, 1.99M) presented by Ken Jeong and Joel McHale, was two tenths of the net New Year’s Eve with Steve Harvey: live from Times Square last year.
CBS stayed out of the fray, showing repetitions.
