ABC charges $ 2 MILLION for this year’s 30-second Oscar commercial

The awards show that the public plummeted in the midst of the pandemic, with the Grammy Awards and the Golden Globe presenting poor ratings.

Despite viewers’ apparent lack of interest, ABC is asking for $ 2 million to display a single 30-second commercial at this year’s Oscar, according to Variety.

The film’s biggest night is typically a source of income for advertising dollars, with the 2020 Oscars raising nearly $ 130 million, the vehicle added.

Two sources familiar with the situation confirmed to Variety that ABC, the network that airs at the 93rd Oscars, is pricing the ads at approximately $ 2 million per pop for a 30-second commercial.

Commerce noted that, perhaps surprisingly, ‘the network does not appear to be facing much resistance’.

The multi-million dollar price is on par with recent years; however, those years were not complicated by the coronavirus crisis.

Last year’s Oscar, which occurred just before the pandemic blockades, reached the lowest audience of just 23.6 million – 6 million below the previous year.

Among socially distant and virtual programs, or virtual / face-to-face hybrids, the audience for awards in 2021 has plummeted and the Oscar is expected to be no different.

Earlier this month, the Grammy broadcast, which aired on CBS, had just 8.8 million viewers on various platforms, down 10 million last January.

Shortly before that, the Golden Globe audience, presented by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, fell 60% over the previous year.

After the COVID-19 delays, the 93rd edition of the Oscars will continue this year without a presenter, and instead, the producers are ‘making offers’ to the stars ‘that they hope will come to present the categories’ during the live broadcast .

The show will be partially streamed in person from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles with a live component at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and producers are planning “for top-notch presenters to distribute awards on a rotating basis” during the program, which is not supposed to include a Zoom element, unlike most awards programs this season.

“Our plan is for this year’s Oscar to look like a movie, not a television show,” producers Jesse Collins, Stacy Sher and Steven Soderbergh said in a statement to Deadline.

“We are treating the event as an active film set, with test cadences specially designed to guarantee up-to-date results, including an on-site COVID security team with PCR testing capability.

‘There will be specific instructions for those traveling outside of Los Angeles and other instructions for those who are already based in Los Angeles. All of this will come directly from the Academy for you to ensure that you have a safe and carefree night (a glimpse into the future?).

Producers also hope that a new format can shake up the expected low ratings, as the audience has fallen for award shows this season. Oscar will air on April 25.
