Aaron Rodgers writes a letter to a Packers fan in South Carolina

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Daniel Lybrand is a longtime Green Bay Packers fan.

Coming from the small town of Batesburg in South Carolina, he never visited Green Bay or Lambeau Field.

He became a fan after the team hired University of South Carolina wide receiver Sterling Sharpe in 1988.

“I would like to thank you for dedicating all the time to my little old man in South Carolina,” said Lybrand of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

He and his girlfriend Laci Steele are postmen on the United States Postal Service. On Thanksgiving, she got hurt at work.

Knowing he couldn’t go out and buy Lybrand a Christmas present, Steele wrote Rodgers a five-page letter detailing some of his ups and downs this year with the pandemic and expressing how much his boyfriend loves the Packers.

She sent her letter to the Green Bay Packers’ mailbox around December 12, without waiting for an immediate response, or none at all.

Within two weeks, the couple received a Christmas card on the 26th, which was posted on the 22nd.

“’You look like a sweet guy. Thank you for taking such good care of Laci, she loves you very much. Merry Christmas to you, friend, and I pray that 2021 will be better for all of us with extra love, connection, growth and peace. Aaron, ‘”Steele said reading the message Rodgers wrote.

Rodgers signed the card and listed the return address on the envelope only as number 12.

“Part of what made it so special for me is that,” Steele said mid-sentence before Lybrand interrupted, “he got here in a reasonable amount of time.”

The couple told Action 2 News that they went public with this to show another side of Aaron Rodgers’ character who doesn’t get enough attention.

“Thank you for being just a genuine human being. Your legacy is much more than what you do in the field. It’s what you do when no one else is looking, ”Steele said.

They hope to visit Lambeau Field this fall for a Packers game if fans are allowed.

Packers employees and their families, as well as frontline employees, were the only ones admitted to Lambeau to watch the games.
