Aaron Rodgers wants a new Packers contract

Aaron Rodgers is not happy with the Packers.

The 37-year-old favorite of the 2020 NFL MVP award wants a new contract, a source told Mike Florio of NBC Sports.

Rodgers is coming out of an excellent year in which he led the Packers to a 13-3 record and the NFC championship game. He completed a career record of 70.7 percent of his passes for 4,299 yards and 48 touchdowns (also a personal record) for just five interceptions.

The Packers were defeated by the Buccaneers, 31-26, on Sunday, and Rodgers’ enigmatic comments after the game left many wondering if their days at Green Bay were over.

“[The Packers have] many futures of guys who are uncertain – including me, ”he said after the defeat. “That’s the saddest thing about it, getting this far. Obviously, it will be an end at some point, regardless of whether we go through it or not, but only uncertainty is difficult and the purpose of everything. “

Rodgers is under contract until 2023 after signing a four-year extension, $ 134 million before the 2018 season. He will have a net profit of $ 23.22 million in total cash in 2021 and $ 25.5 million in 2022 and 2023 , which puts him behind defenders Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Drew Brees, Jimmy Garoppolo and Ryan Tannehill, according to Spotrac.

Rodgers is in a strong bargaining position if he formally requests a new contract, given his strong performance in 2020 and the large number of potential spots for a defender in the league. A bunch of teams, including Falcons, Bears, Cowboys, Lions, Saints, Eagles, 49ers, Washington, Broncos, Texans, Colts, Jaguars, Patriots, Jets and Steelers may be looking for new flags in this off season.

The pay and contract structure are probably not the only complaints for the Pro Bowler nine times. General manager Brian Gutekunst spent all seven rounds without selecting a receiver and switched in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Jordan Love, Rodgers’ presumed replacement. Love, 22, was widely considered an unfinished product and a reach at the end of the first round. He sat on the bench and played nothing for the entire season. Rodgers sat for three seasons before taking over from Brett Favre.

If the Packers did not restructure their current business, Rodgers would carry a $ 37.57 million limit reached and a $ 31.56 million dead limit reached in 2021. His reached dead limit would drop to $ 17.2 million in 2022 and just $ 2 , 85 million in 2023, making an exit more plausible.

Rodgers has been with the Packers since he was taken in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. The Cal product completed 65.1 percent of its passes for 51,245 yards, 412 touchdowns and 89 interceptions in 197 regular season appearances over 16 years. Throughout his prolific career, he won three All-Pro awards from the main team, two NFL MVP awards and a Super Bowl title, winning the Super Bowl MVP award in 2011.
