Lions new defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is not impressed with how the defense he inherited played last year.
Glenn said that when he watches the Lions 2020 season film, he sees a group of players with the potential to play much better than they do – if they receive better training.
“You have a group of athletes, you train them. Tell them what they have to do, ”said Glenn.
Glenn said that he and coach Dan Campbell agree that the Lions defense looked confused in 2020.
“When you look at the players, I think Dan said that, that the players looked confused, I think without confidence,” said Glenn. “What we have to do is change this narrative of their thinking so that they can go out and play with confidence and play fast. What we are going to do as a team is our number one job, making players play fast, making them confident and letting them go. We don’t have to think about it too much. We just want the guys to understand: ‘What is my job? Where are my eyes, coach? And what i can do? And they will play fast and confidently. “
This is not exactly a resounding endorsement of the training of former coach Matt Patricia and his team, but it is an indication that Glenn doesn’t think he has as long a reconstruction effort as some might think. Glenn believes that Lions can be a better team and it is their job to provide better training.
