A year after saying it will release 93 games in five years, Take-Two says it will release 93 games in five years

Nearly a year after announcing that it planned to release 93 games in the next five years, Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, once again said it would release 93 games in the next five years. This number comes from the earnings of Take-Two Interactive call today, in which the company provided a very specific number, without recognizing that a year had passed since it first gave that number, or outlining how its releases last year were. fit the planned list of exactly 93 titles.

When asked by an investor in the call to explain how the past year had impacted the number, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff seemed to indicate that “93 titles in five years” as a reference had started in 2020, and he was not simply being moved as a new goal to start in 2021.“The ’93 ‘titles we released there were a snapshot, it was a moment in time,” he said. “And we haven’t really given any updates on that since. Of course, things come and go all the time, it hasn’t been that long since, so you can’t really expect there to be a significant amount of movement, but I can say with certainty that there are some things that fell and others that came back. But, in general, these numbers are still very good. We hope this pipeline will be fluid, as we have passed things through several milestones, so this will change over time, but we do not provide additional update in addition to the initial announcement we made. “

He also broke some statistics about the company’s expectations for those 93 titles, which incidentally are the same statistics he gave in May last year: 63 titles are “essential gaming experiences”, 17 are “intermediate” and 13 are “casual” . ” He expects 47 of the releases to be existing IPs, while the rest are new IPs. 72 are planned for console, PC and streaming services, with seven of these 72 moving to mobile; 23 of the 93 will be on mobile only. And 67 of the games will be premium releases, while 26 are free.

This is not to say that Take-Two did not make progress towards the goal of 93 launches last year. In 2020, its subsidiaries launched a series of games, including Disintegration from Private Division and several 2K Games games, including Carnival Games, NBA 2K21, XCOM: Chimera Squad, WWE 2K Battlegrounds and Mafia: Definition Edition. He also released several DLC packages (which Slatoff had previously programmed did not count for 93 game releases), as well as re-launching older games on new platforms, such as Borderlands 3 and NBA 2K21 coming to next generation platforms, and BioShock: A collection coming to Nintendo Switch – it is not clear whether they would be included in 93.

It is also likely that this figure is indicative of a milestone established in the current fiscal year, that Take-Two is still in the middle and ending on March 31, 2020. It is possible that the company will provide a more complete update on its progress in towards the 93 game releases in its next quarter finances, which will include your earnings for the entire year and goals for the new fiscal year.

The next games that may be among this number include the yet to be announced GTA 6, a new BioShock game, Kerbal Space Program 2 (which has been postponed to at least 2022) and the usual annual list of 2K Sports titles, including NBA 2K.

Take-Two reported another strong quarter of earnings, including new record milestones for GTA Online and Red Dead Online, with the first seeing engagement numbers rising after the release of Cayo Perico Heist last year.
