In a video posted on Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum, a man descends a long, steep slide, waving his arms, before hitting the muddy floor. He then sits up, stunned.
The video title: “A stock promoted by the WSB as soon as I buy it.”
The meme is a hit, shooting to the top of the subreddit page. “Buy high and sell low, right?” a user responded.
The ironic meme has some truth. In the past few weeks, many stocks that WallStreetBets had sent flying high “to the moon” have fallen to earth. GameStop Corp.’s favorite forum closed on Friday at $ 52.40, below an intraday peak of nearly $ 500 just over two weeks ago.
What follows is a five-day diary of chaos and jokes on WallStreetBets (we can’t publish all the bad words).
