A waterproof flagship with rear screen

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Tech Buff PH rear screen

  • A YouTuber uploaded a practical video showing the Mi 11 Ultra.
  • The phone has a secondary screen on the back, ostensibly for selfies.
  • It may also be Xiaomi’s first flagship with a full water resistance rating.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 globally this month, and it looks like a pretty solid flagship phone priced from 750 to 799. But what if you want something more impressive from the Chinese brand? Fortunately, it looks like the Mi 11 Ultra is on its way to ticking all the boxes.

YouTuber Tech Buff PH uploaded a 10-minute hands-on video (h / t: XDA Developers) displaying what he calls the Mi 11 Ultra (model number M2102K1G). The video, which has already been deleted, but can still be found here, confirms a ton of specs and shows one of the most feature-rich phones of 2021.

Probably the most interesting feature of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is the huge rear camera housing, which not only hosts a layout of three rear cameras, but also a tiny screen. This screen looks too small for regular touch interactions, bringing the Meizu Pro 7 series to mind. But we have to assume that it will be used to take selfies with the main camera.

Speaking of photography, it looks like the Ultra model will also offer an impressive upgrade over the Mi 11. It is said to offer a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultra-wide snapper and a 48MP periscopic camera with 120x digital zoom. There is no word on whether this is a 5X or 10X optical lens. Meanwhile, a 20 MP sensor in a perforated cutout is working for selfies.

It is also said that the phone will offer fast charging speeds for its 5,000 mAh battery, with 67W wired charging, 67W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. The Mi 11’s 55 wired and 50 W wireless charging speeds delivered charging times of less than 55 minutes, so expect the Mi 11 Ultra to save a few more minutes.

Another notable feature listed by Tech Buff PH is IP68 water resistance, which could be the first time that we see a Xiaomi phone with a significant (and official) water resistance rating. We’ve seen Xiaomi devices with splash-proof coatings before, but they never had official IP ratings and were not made to survive a dip in the water. So this marks a major change for the company.

Otherwise, the device will apparently be equipped with a Snapdragon 888 processor, a 6.67-inch WQHD + OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and speakers tuned by Harman Kardon.

Among the main silicon, sharp 120 Hz screen, high resolution rear cameras, fast charging and IP68 rating, we expect this phone to have a premium price (~ $ 1,000 or more) when it launches. Presumably, this phone will not be limited to the Chinese market if a Filipino YouTuber also has it.
