On Thursday, Bovada had the San Francisco 49ers with the fifth best chance of winning Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. These chances have not changed. A sportsbook, however, has San Francisco with much better odds. These would be the DraftKings, which have the 49ers with the second best chances of having Watson on the Week 1 list of the 2021 season (h / t until Patrick Tulini)
Below are the teams with the top five chances to acquire Watson, via DraftKings. It is a significant leap from the +1100 odds that San Francisco maintained with sports betting just a few days ago.
- Texans +200
- 49ers +400
- Panthers +450
- Broncos +500
- Dolphins / Jets +1000
On Friday, a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler stated that the 49ers were among the teams on Watson’s list for which he could consider trading. The quarterback has something to say on the matter. His clause prohibiting trading means that he must approve any commercial destination.
“I checked with a source who said that Deshaun Watson has a list of teams that are intriguing him,” said Fowler. “He’s not rating anything, but he has a list. I didn’t get all the teams, but I was told that the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers are two of them.
“I also asked the source about the Jets and the Dolphins, because they have the largest draft capital this year and the years to come. I was told that the Jets, ‘Eh, probably not.’ Perhaps more Dolphins when it comes to viability. “
A team that Watson doesn’t want to play on is Texans. The quarterback is involved in an impasse with his current team and is ignoring Houston’s attempts to contact him. Still, Texans still have the best chance of having Watson for week 1.
While it is difficult to imagine the Watson-Texans saga ending in any way other than divorce, an unprecedented commercial offer is likely to be needed to acquire the quarterback, and there will be significant competition. That could hurt the 49ers’ chances and, for now, Jimmy Garoppolo should still be considered the favorite to start as a week 1 defender.

Here’s what a Texan insider believes it will cost to acquire Deshaun Watson

The Houston Texans have not publicly stated that Deshaun Watson is available through an exchange. In fact, even if the defender continues to distance himself from his team after asking to be traded, high-ranking Texas officials have declared that they do not wish to part ways with their star player. Detroit Lions’ collection of two future choices in the first round, a choice in the third round and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff for quarterback Matthew Stafford has many speculating what may be needed to keep Watson from the Texans. If Lions can achieve so much for Stafford, Watson may require sacrificing years of recruiting capital and part of his list. Of course, part of the reason the Rams had to give up so much was to offload Goff and his salary. This

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepared to play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl LV, NFL Media’s Gregg Rosenthal took a look at the other NFC squads and highlighted a potential move for each that would allow the team to reach or even overcome the Bucs next season. What would it take for Coach Kyle Shanahan and his San Francisco 49ers to make their second Super Bowl appearance in three years? Surprise surprise. The answer was Deshaun Watson. Watson was Rosenthal’s response to two other NFC squads as well – the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears. But there is no doubt that the 49ers could be the team to jump to the top of NFC power

La Canfora: 49ers ‘very interested’ in Deshaun Watson, Kyle Shanahan ‘very high’ in Sam Darnold

Fans would probably prefer to see the San Francisco 49ers stay with Jimmy Garoppolo instead of giving up significant capital to any potentially available defender not named Deshaun Watson. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports noted in the pre-game coverage of the chain’s Super Bowl LV that 49ers are among the teams “very interested” in acquiring the Watson from the Houston Texans, if one is available. “Deshaun Watson, he still really wants to get out of Houston,” said La Canfora. “The Texans are saying to the teams, ‘We are not negotiating with him.’ This can change with the draft. I can tell you, the 49ers, the Panthers (are) among the teams very interested in Deshaun Watson, as well as the Jets. “The competition for Watson can get hot if the Texans try to move him.
