Sarah Jessica Parker made long underwear with a surprisingly chic look
On Tuesday, after the announcement of the reboot of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted on her SJP shoe brand by Sarah Jessica Parker’s flagship store in Manhattan. For the occasion, the actress-stylist wore a pair of black Mary-Janes high-heeled shoes of her brand, which she styled with a gray sweater and capri sweatpants. Since it is January in New York, however, she put on a layer of what looked like long panties underneath. And since it’s Carrie Bradshaw we’re talking about, it really worked. Personally, when I think of long underwear, an image of a single garment that someone would wear hidden under a snow suit or other layers for a day on the slopes or a winter walk appears. However, this is not the case for the Parker version of the cold weather layer that looks knitted and features an adjusted ankle cuff. Instead, in line with popular lingerie as a clothing trend, her long underwear serves as a pair of leggings and peeks over her low-waisted shorts. (It is also possible that Parker is wearing leggings that only look like long panties.) She also wore a black ribbed face mask from Masqd, which was attached to a thin silver chain. Once outside, Parker wore a medium-length puffer coat by Gerard Darel and a backpack from his brand collaboration with Samsonite (see photo at top). Whether in the SATC character or in real life, Parker has a reputation for creating unusual clothing sets. Like Bradshaw, she became famous for wearing a belt above her skirt, as well as a cowboy hat with a bandeau bra, among other memorable outfits. IRL, the actress also makes combinations of unconventional styles – many of which involve wearing sweatpants with designer boots and big headphones – look stylish. So we can’t say it’s so surprising that, of all people, Parker found a way to convince us that long underwear can be a winter staple that is worth showing off. Like what you’re seeing?
