  • An eBay user sold a prototype of the OnePlus 9 for $ 6,000.
  • The device appears to be from a previous leak.
  • Don’t be surprised if OnePlus turns your phone into a paperweight.

Remember that mid-December leak that seemed to show live photos of the OnePlus 9? He’s back – and the device may have changed hands. XDAin Mishaal Rahman and Android Police reported that eBay user Shamete1 was listing the phone’s prototype at an auction and sold it for $ 6,000.

EBay photos are from the same OnePlus 9 unit shown on a PhoneArena leak, just without the watermarks. They point to a relatively conservative design fit compared to the 8T, with the most notable change being a large camera with three lenses and the “Ultra Shot” brand (possibly an echo of Oppo’s “Ultra Steady”). Earlier rumors said the phone used 48 MP primary and ultra-wide cameras, as well as a smaller third rear sensor.

The seller also briefly included photos showing the OnePlus 9 running the latest version of Oxygen OS based on Android 11, although those photos have been deleted from eBay’s list (probably because they include device identifiers).

It is not certain whether the eBay device was authentic. It is possible that someone took the unedited photos of the leak and just used them to trick potential buyers of OnePlus 9 on eBay. That was an extremely risky purchase, even if the phone is real. As Shamete1 warned, OnePlus is free to do whatever it wants – it can remotely hang up the phone or send the police after the buyer.

As real as this hardware may be, you will probably have to be patient for any kind of confirmation. Rumors do not have OnePlus launching 9 until mid-March. This is also assuming that there are no changes. Although many phone manufacturers block their designs in the final months before launch, we cannot completely rule out last-minute adjustments.
