Nier is one of those rising properties for Square Enix. And now a new game in the series is destroying the sales charts in Japan. This is not the next Nier Replicant Ver.1.22474487139, which is really its name. That game is still coming in April. Instead, it’s Nier: Reincarnation for mobile devices that caught the Japanese audience.
Nier: Reincarnation debuted for iOS and Android earlier this week and immediately shot to the top of the charts.
“[Nier Reincarnation] rose rapidly in the ranking of highest-grossing apps on the iPhone to a strong number 4, ” Kantan Games analyst Dr. Serkan Toto wrote on Twitter on the day the game is released. “It rarely happens.”
What Toto means by this is that games usually take time to top the charts in Japanese mobile stores. And since a game is in the top 5 or more, it usually maintains that momentum for months – if not years.
Since the day of its launch, Reincarnation has gained even more sales force. Nier is now the highest grossing iPhone game in Japan, according to App Annie, an industry monitoring company.

Part of Nier: Reincarnation’s appeal is that Square Enix is positioning him as a true entry into the series. Nier: Automata’s director, Yoko Taro, also oversaw Reincarnation in the same role. This probably means that the game will address the same themes that made Automata so loved. Or maybe the fans are just showing up for the soundtrack. Anyway, the game is already a great success.
“Both platforms combined, Nier can now earn $ 2- $ 3 million a day,” said Toto.
All Square Enix needs to do now is to keep these players coming back.
Nier: Reincarnation has no worldwide release date yet.
