A new multiplayer game Star Wars arena is coming to Nintendo Switch

A new multiplayer Star Wars arena game is coming to Nintendo Switch. Star Wars: Hunters was revealed during the Nintendo Direct broadcast in February, and will be free to play when it launches later this year.

Nintendo’s ad trailer didn’t reveal much about the game other than its name. The trailer seems to take place on a sandy planet – possibly Tatooine? – in what appeared to be a hidden arena, designed for some kind of illegal negotiation or struggle. As the camera moves down the hall, we get glimpses of a character holding lightsabers, a stormtrooper and a Wookie. Finally, the camera stops at a giant door that opens to reveal a battlefield filled with lightsaber and laser smoke.

According to YouTube’s description of the ad trailer, Star Wars: Hunters it will be a free squad-based arena combat game – which is probably what we saw at the end of the trailer. Based on the logo at the end of the trailer, the game appears to have been developed by Zynga, the developer best known for social games like Farmville.

Star Wars: Hunters still doesn’t have a set release date, but is scheduled to come out later this year, so we should get some more information in the near future. According to the game’s website, it will also come to iOS and Android along with the Switch.
