The decision to welcome Qatar back to the Gulf Nations after a three and a half-year blockade could lead to a stronger resolution against Iran, experts say.
“These are the main players in the region – so moving from a hostile relationship to a working relationship is beneficial for the stability of the region,” said former Texas Republican deputy Ted Poe, who served on the Foreign Affairs Committee, to the Fox News. “As allies of the United States, their collective cooperation allows the United States to pursue its interests in the region more easily. Now that they are cooperating to a greater degree, it makes the United States’ interest more achievable.”
For Washington, the main problem on this list is the growing threat from Iran. A united GCC, the organization of the Gulf of Bahrain Cooperation Council, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar … along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Egypt can now coordinate and cooperate to better address the threats from Tehran.

The group had made 13 demands on Qatar to end the blockade, from the closure of the Al Jazeera network, which is based in Qatar and financed by the network, to the demand for Doha to completely isolate Iran. It opposed Qatar’s continued support for Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamic groups.
In the end, Qatar did not have to give in to any of the demands. It also appears that the next Biden government, which has taken over the foreign policy of the United States, could also have contributed to accelerating a resolution. Halting Iran’s nuclear program, which appears to be advancing, with Tehran’s announcement that it is increasing its uranium enrichment to 20%, is a worrying development in both Washington and the region. Some say that a Gulf united front has brought a new strategic defeat to the troubled Iranian regime.
“Iran left at the end of the GCC agreement,” wrote Andrew Parasiliti of Al-Monitor. “The next Biden government is in a better position to detain, confront and involve Iran because of that; now there is one less thing to do, one more thing to be built … the only one from the outside looking in is Iran, and this is as intended and to the advantage of Biden. “

Poe agrees, but also says that Biden’s foreign policy team must continue the path traced by the Trump administration. This policy helped to guarantee the historical recognition of Israel by four Arab countries: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.
“The new administration must continue on the same path. The mutual recognition of Israel with several countries is a big step forward. He reports that some countries, like Qatar, which did not recognize Israel, are helping Israel’s security by ensuring that there are no attacks on Israel, is also encouraging. “
