What to know for Thursday

  • DHEC reported 1,762 new confirmed cases and 64 new deaths across the state on Wednesday. The agency also reported 156 new probable cases.
  • State health officials have announced that Southern Carolinians aged 65 and over, regardless of health status or pre-existing condition, can begin scheduling their COVID-19 vaccination appointments on Monday, February 8.
  • The latest state profile report from the federal government shows that South Carolina is among the states with the highest rate of new cases and deaths.
  • DHEC reminds the public that testing is an essential tool for delaying the spread of COVID-19. The agency will also change the way it calculates percentage positivity for COVID-19 cases to be more easily comparable to federal data, including the CDC.
