A look at the past, present and future of Georgia defenders, that Gunner Stockton, Brock Vandagriff developed

Georgia has won 5-star quarterbacks in consecutive recruiting classes. The Bulldogs hired Brock Vandagriff in the 2021 recruiting class. Kirby Smart and Todd Monken followed suit, getting a commitment from 2022 5-star quarterback Gunner Stockton on Thursday.

The two defenders have crossed paths before, when Vandagriff’s Prince Avenue Chrisitan Academy faced the Stockton Rabun County team in September 2020.

The contest was broadcast nationally, giving many their first exposure to the two talented quarterbacks. But those who have followed DawgNation have long known what the two talented quarterbacks are capable of.

Scroll down the gallery below to see how Stockton and Vandagriff have developed over the years towards the future of Georgia’s quarterback position.

Stockton’s team came out with a 38-31 victory over Vandagriff and Prince Avenue that September night, but the two defenders showed why they are highly praised candidates. Vandagriff’s team was left behind by 31-7 at the start, as Stockton had little trouble running for the defense of Prince Avenue. After the game, Vandagriff’s coach and father, Greg, compared Stockton to Justin Fields.

But Vandagriff took his team back to a 31st draw. Stockton made a final touchdown throw in the fourth period to give his team victory.

It would be the last time in the entire season that Vandagriff would lose this season, as he led his team to the state title.

After the game, Stockton praised Vandagriff’s performance.

These two are likely to fight to be the Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback once Stockton arrives on campus. This could happen as early as the 2022 season, as JT Daniels looks set to leave for the NFL. Stockton will enroll early in Georgia, as did Vandagriff.

It must be a fascinating couple of seasons with these two on the Athens campus.
