A HEALTHY teenager caught Covid-19 before Christmas and died just days after the virus “consumed” her, says her family.
Sarah Simental, 18, from Chicago, who had no previous health problems, started experiencing headache, sore throat and body aches on December 23.

Sarah felt so bad that her parents took her to a local hospital, where they found out she had Covid-19.
Here it only got worse and was flown to the University of Chicago Hospital, ABC7 reported.
But the teenager never recovered, dying days after cardiac arrest after suffering complications from Covid-19.
Sarah Simental’s grieving mother, Deborah Simental, told ABC-7 how her daughter called her from the hospital shortly before her death and that she was upset about missing Christmas.
‘TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY’
She said, “And I had to reassure her that it is just one day on the calendar and, when she comes home, ‘We will do Christmas with you.’
“Unfortunately she didn’t (she left the hospital). It literally consumed her. And no parent should have to watch their son go through this.”
Sarah’s father, Don Simental, told ABC: “I have no words for that. I just can’t believe how fast it has progressed.”
In a message to young people, he added: “Take this seriously.”

Deborah said the only consolation for her and her husband was that they were able to be by Sarah’s bedside when she died.
She said, “She said, ‘I’m going to be fine, mom.’
“So I know she knows, eventually, we’ll all be fine. We’ll miss her, but we’ll be fine.”
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the high school student died of an acute lack of oxygen in the blood due to Covid’s infection, with brain bleeding as a contributing factor.
Covid has already infected 19.3 million Americans and killed more than 335,000.
