Holograms are not new, but a desktop machine that drives them out may be available soon, assuming LitiHolo’s Kickstarter is successful. The machine will have a retail price of $ 1,600 and fits in a square of 60 centimeters. It can generate 4 × 5 inch holograms with 1 mm hogels (the pixel-like hologram).
The machine allows 23 zones of vision per hogel and can create mobile holograms with a few seconds of movement – like the famous kiss-blowing holograms.
Of course, you will also need a special self-development film and a way to insert 3D images into the printer, such as software or a camera configured to do a 3D scan. In the 4 × 5 size, the film costs about $ 13 a plate that will create a hologram.
Since 5 inches is 127 mm, the resolution of the result is about 101 × 127, and the samples on the website and the video below certainly don’t appear to be in HD.
Will people pay $ 1600 for low resolution holograms? More importantly, is there a market for grainy holograms that would allow you to get your investment back? Maybe not, but that didn’t stop us from buying 3D printers and other workshop toys. Also, if this catches on, what will be available in ten years?
Of course, if you have laser equipment, you can now make your own holograms. You can even get kits that contain most of what you need.
