A Cyberpunk 2077 security exploit makes installing mods a risky business

CD Projekt Red warned players that the installation Cyberpunk 2077 mods or custom files saved on the PC can pose a security risk (via Kotaku) According to the company’s tweet, there is apparently a “vulnerability in external DLL files that the game uses, which can be used to run code on PCs”. The game’s official mod tools were released last week.

The company warns users not to install files from unknown sources, although as Kotaku points out, that it practically deletes all mods, unless you can read and understand its code. When you are dealing with a vulnerability that could lead to arbitrary code running on your computer, it is probably best not to take any chances until a fix is available.

This is not the first problem that CD Projekt Red faced with the Cyberpunk mod system – the company also asked players to stop installing mods that would allow them to have sex with Keanu Reeves’ character.
