A cure for Covid? Israeli team says new drug has 96% success

Researchers at Tel Aviv’s largest hospital, Ichilov, are reporting what could be a major turning point in the fight against the Covid-19 virus – a drug that is curing corona patients with a 96 percent success rate.

Thirty patients suffering from moderate or severe levels of Corona received the new drug EXO-CD24, developed by Professor Nadir Arber of the Ichilov Cancer Prevention Center. Only one patient did not respond: 29 others showed “marked improvement” two days after taking the new drug.

Professor Arber says the treatment is “effective and cheap.

The medication is administered by inhalation, once a day, in a procedure that lasts only a few minutes, for five days ”, he said.

The 29 who improved after taking the drug were discharged from the hospital three to five days later.

Now Professor Ronni Gamzu, the former “coroner” of the state coronavirus, who has returned to his role as chief executive of Ichilov, says he will personally help Professor Arber get the green light from the Israeli Ministry of Health to test the drug in a broader group of patients.

He said: “‘I am proud that here in Ichilov we are among the world leaders in the search for a cure for the horrible epidemic.”

A similar treatment was announced by Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. In their trial, 21 critically ill patients – who had underlying health problems – received a drug called Allocetra. According to doctors, 19 patients recovered in six days and were discharged from the hospital on average after eight days.

The drug was developed by Professor Dror Mevorach. director of Hadassah’s Rheumatology and Internal Medicine Research Center.
