A 19-year-old shoots his grandfather and aunt, kills a cousin and continues to do violence across southwest Miami-Dade, police said.

SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI-DADE, Florida. – A 19-year-old is behind bars after a riot on Saturday morning that terrified a family and a neighborhood in southwest Miami-Dade. It all happened after Ruben Warren Williams was confronted by his grandfather about smoking marijuana and other substances.

Williams is accused of shooting and injuring his grandfather and aunt and killing his cousin. He faces several serious charges, including second-degree murder.

According to police documents, Williams was upset when his grandfather spoke to him about his drug use around 11.15 am on Saturday. Williams responded by shooting his grandfather and then his aunt.

The two victims jumped out of a second-floor window to escape the house where the shooting took place along Southwest 294 Street near Southwest 142 Avenue.

The male victim is said to have broken both ankles and to be wounded by a firearm in the back. The woman had gunshot wounds to the upper extremities, according to the report.

In the living room of the house, Williams shot his cousin, identified as Carlton Tillman, 27. Tillman ended up collapsing on the kitchen floor, where Miami-Dade Fire Rescue found him dead from several gunshot wounds.

Williams then went upstairs in search of his grandfather and aunt, presumably unaware that they had jumped. Two other adults hid in an upstairs room with their 4 children after hearing gunshots.

According to police, the man hiding in the room had his own gun and left the room. He made contact with Williams and they exchanged shots, but the man backed away, returning to the room where he blocked the door with a dresser.

No one hiding in the room was injured, according to the police.

“There was a verbal dispute inside the residence that got worse and led to gunfire,” said detective Kristopher Welch, of the Miami Dade Police Department, at the scene.

Williams then left the residence, where he spotted his aunt outside. He started chasing her around the neighborhood while shooting at her, the police said. She escaped the sniper by running into a neighbor’s yard. Exclusive surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a neighbor helping the injured woman.

Police said Williams also shot and injured the neighbor’s barking dog.

Williams then escaped the scene after he jumped over to the passenger side of a vehicle that was parked. The unsuspecting woman had stopped to locate a store address on her cell phone.

The woman said Williams got in the car, put a gun to her head and shouted for her to drive. He demanded his phone and wedding ring, the victim told police. She said she gave him the items and Williams kept her at gunpoint, forcing her to drive for several hours, she said.

Witnesses told police they saw Williams get into the woman’s black vehicle. Williams also contacted his sister saying he had kidnapped a woman in her car.

The police finally caught up with Williams on Saturday night and took him into custody.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and declared Tillman dead. The man and woman were flown to the Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma in critical condition.
