This time last year, the red carpets were back in storage.
The 93rd Oscar ceremony is scheduled for April 25, more than two months after last year’s ceremony. The award will recognize films released during a year in which the cinemas were practically closed.
Streaming services, which were already on the rise as a presence in the award season, are expected to dominate, both with their own productions (such as Netflix’s “Mank”) and with traditional studio films released on streaming platforms because of the pandemic (such as “Nomadland” by Searchlight Pictures, which is being broadcast on Hulu).
