Chris Harrison will talk about his departure from “The Bachelor” in an “Good Morning America” interview that will air on Thursday, a preview of which was released on Wednesday.
Harrison called his defense Rachael Kirkconnell, a competitor in the current season “The Bachelor” – anchored by Matt James, the franchise’s first black bachelor – “a mistake”.
“I made a mistake,” he said to “GMA” host Michael Strahan. “I am an imperfect man. I made a mistake and this is mine. “
It is the most recent stop on Harrison’s pardon tour since he had an exchange with Rachel Lindsay – the first black “Bachelorette” – in “Extra”, in which he defended Kirkconnell’s participation in a plantation-themed college party “Old South” in 2018.
Harrison asked for “a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion”, saying he found it “incredibly alarming” that “people [were] just destroying this girl’s life. “
Using the phrase “woke up the police” at one point, Harrison responded to Lindsay by calling the situation “a bad look”, saying, “Is he looking good in 2018 or not looking good in 2021? Because there is a big difference. “
“It’s not a good look because she’s celebrating the Old South,” Lindsay replied, adding, “If I went to that party, what would I represent in it?”
Harrison apologized and said goodbye to the franchise after the furor after the interview. Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel I think was chosen to host the special “The Bachelor: After The Final Rose” after Harrison left.
Meanwhile, Lindsay deleted her Instagram after harassment by fans of the show, a move condemned by the producers of “Bachelor”.
