Jeremy Lin will not name the person who called him a ‘coronavirus’ on the court

Lin, who plays for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the G League, or secondary league, affiliated with the Golden State Warriors, tweeted Saturday he will not be “naming or shaming anyone” after sharing the racism he has experienced.

“What’s the use in this situation of someone being demolished?” Said Lin. “It doesn’t make my community more secure or solve any of our long-term problems with racism.”

“Instead, if you really want to help, look for the Asian boy who has no one to speak for him when he is bullied,” he said. “Look for Asian American groups that are facing poverty but are being forgotten.”

The AG League is investigating the incident, a source familiar with the situation told CNN.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the guard expressed his anguish over racism and violence against Asian Americans. Communities and advocates in the United States have been on high alert in recent weeks, following a series of recent attacks against the minority group.
While it is unclear what is fueling the recent incidents, advocates and officials say they have seen a pattern of hatred directed since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

During his time at Harvard University, Lin said his assistant coach Kenny Blakeney helped talk about the times when he experienced racism.

“He shared with me his own experiences as a black man – stories of racism that I couldn’t even begin to understand,” said Lin.

In 2019, Lin became the first Asian American to win an NBA title while playing for the Toronto Raptors. Lin became a household name in 2012, when he emerged as the star of the New York Knicks. Its success was dubbed “Linsanity”.
