Emmys may be the gold standard for excellence in television, but they are not perfect … and sometimes, the Golden Globe is there to fix things.
Globes have certainly been prone to, say, eccentric choices over the years – Mozart in the jungle, anyone? Seriously, has anyone really seen this show? – but they also found some big winners. In fact, on some occasions, Globe voters gave awards to very dignified programs and actors that Emmy voters completely ignored. Classic programs like Twin Peaks and The shield and beloved artists like Steve Carell and Hugh Laurie never gave an Emmy acceptance speech … but they did at Globes.
