Emily In Paris ‘bought’ Golden Globe nominations? The creators of the Netflix show countered the “unfair” claims of receiving awards after receiving judges on a lavish set visit
- A source said the allegations were “unfair” and that the Netflix show was “extremely successful”
- The show is competing for the best series, with star Lily Collins nominated for best actress
- The voting body behind the Golden Globes was attacked after naming Netflix’s romp instead of critics’ darlings like HBO’s I May Destroy You
Emily’s creators in Paris responded to “unfair” claims that the film received Golden Globe nominations after offering jurors a luxurious visit to the set.
The comedy-drama show is nominated for best series and Lily Collins is nominated for best actress.
It was said this week that inviting 30 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) – who votes for Globes – on a trip to visit the set in Paris was an ‘ethical conflict’.

C’est chic: It was reported that the creators / studio behind Emily In Paris presented more than 30 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on luxury trips to visit the set while the show filmed the City of Lights
They stayed at a five-star hotel on behalf of producer Paramount, according to the LA Times.
During the trip, the group reportedly received two nights at the $ 1,400 five-star Peninsula Paris hotel, as well as a meeting and lunch at the historic and private Musée des Arts Forains, all courtesy of the Paramount Network.
Although HFPA members were not the only ones who attended, according to Times sources, their organization’s rules specifically prohibit members from accepting gifts from producers or studios that are worth more than $ 125.
But a source close to the production told Insider: ‘It is unfair to say that the conference is the reason for the nominations.’ They added that the Netflix program is ‘extremely successful’.

In warm waters: the voting body behind the Golden Globes was attacked after naming Netflix’s gay joke as a tribute while snubbing critics’ darlings like HBO’s I May Destroy You
To add to the controversy, the acclaimed BBC drama by black actress Michaela Coel, I May Destroy You, has been scorned. And the HFPA admitted that it had no black voters on its nominating panel.
Both critics and casual culture connoisseurs alike were surprised to see Emily’s star Lily Collins and the series created by Darren Star gain waves while things like Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You and Black ensemble casts like Da 5 Bloods , Black Bottom by Ma Rainey, Judas And The Black Messias and One Night In Miami were overlooked in the main categories.
