Peter Yarrow accused of raping an underage girl in New York in 1969

Folk singer Peter Yarrow was charged in a new lawsuit for raping an underage girl in a Manhattan hotel room in 1969.

The charges were brought against Yarrow, the founding member of the legendary 1960s trio Peter, Paul and Mary, in a lawsuit on Wednesday in the Manhattan Supreme Court that was brought under the Child Victims Act.

Before the alleged rape, Yarrow met his accuser, who was a fan of his music, several times in performances by his band, the suit says.

He then “became interested in her”, acting what the minor thought to be “in a fatherly manner”, according to the lawsuit.

But the lawsuit claims that, in fact, the folk icon was “preparing” it.

She eventually ran away from her Minnesota home and met Yarrow at a hotel on the Lower East Side, where he allegedly raped her, the lawsuit says.

The next day, Yarrow bought a plane ticket for the smallest to Minnesota and told him to leave, the suit alleges.

The accuser “has suffered the effects of Yarrow’s rape since then,” according to the lawsuit.

She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Yarrow was already convicted of “taking indecent liberties” with a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room in Washington, DC, in 1970.

Messages requesting comments from Yarrow and his accuser’s lawyers were not immediately returned.
