Obviously, Nick Muse has outstanding business at the University of South Carolina.

A former South Point football highlight, Gamecock’s tight end announced on Monday in a Twitter post that he would return for a final season in Columbia.

“There is an opportunity for greatness here (at the University of South Carolina),” he said. “I believe in what (the new South Carolina football coach, Shane Beamer) is bringing to the program and I want to be a part of it. That’s why I’m going back to my extra year of eligibility. “

A veteran, Muse had the option of staying in school for another year, as proposed by the NCAA as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis. On the other hand, he could have become eligible for the next NFL Draft, hoping to join his brother Tanner at the professional level.

In choosing to stay in school, Muse offers South Carolina a target in a pass game devoid of weapons.

Since arriving in Columbia before the 2019 football season, Muse has managed 47 passes for 583 yards. However, last fall was his best in garnet and black, taking 30 passes for 425 meters and a touchdown.

The Belmont native really turned him on later in the season, after freshman Luke Doty was named as a full-time defender from South Carolina. In consecutive games against Missouri and Georgia, he had six receptions for 67 yards and eight receptions for 131 yards and a score, respectively.

Before becoming a college athlete, he was a household name in South Point, where he helped the school to a record 35-12 between 2014 and 2016. The Red Raiders made an appearance in the state final 3A in 2015, winning every year.

A linebacker in each of his three years, he led the team with 160 tackles in 2015 and 165 in 2016, with seven interceptions in each. He thrived in the tight end too, leading South Point with 31 receptions for 559 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2016 Red Raiders championship season.
