Naomi Osaka accessed Twitter on Saturday night to clear up an embarrassing interview where it seemed that Osaka purposely referred to her opponent by the wrong name in an effort to embarrass her.
After Osaka defeated Jennifer Brady to claim her second Australian Open title, the 23-year-old winner tried to properly congratulate her opponent on a good match. Osaka, in the middle of an interview, asked Brady if she preferred Jenny or Jennifer when referring to her and when Brady responded with “Jenny”, Osaka apparently ignored her and still referred to her as Jennifer.
Osaka tweeted an apology, saying that she heard Brady badly.
“I swear my mind thought I called her Jenny at the time and I was so confused because the crowd was laughing,” Osaka tweeted. “I’m very sorry.”
Osaka won in two sets, 6-4 and 6-3, winning his fourth Grand Slam.
