Happy Thursday to all. The women’s basketball team plays on the SEC Network this afternoon at 4pm against Florida in Gainesville. Jasmine Walker is on fire.
After posting a 41-point program record on Sunday against Auburn, Jasmine Walker was elected SEC Player of the Week.
It is the SEC’s first weekly tribute to Walker and the first for Crimson Tide this season.
Walker also became the first SEC player to have more than 40 points and 15 or more rebounds in a game since 2003.
She remains the only SEC player to rank in the top five in scores (20.8) and rebounds (10.2) per game.
41 points looks very good. Women are currently 7 seeds in the NCAA tournament according to ESPN.
The 247 website in Miami reached Saban’s record at the opening of the season and needless to say, things don’t look favorable for the ‘Canes.
Here are some interesting points to look at Alabama’s performance at the season opener during the Nick Saban era …
– Alabama is undefeated (14-0) at the season opener under Nick Saban.
– All of Alabama’s victories were by a double-digit margin.
– Alabama’s average winning margin at the season opener is 29 points.
– Alabama’s average win margin at the opening of the season against Power Five opponents is 25 points.
– Alabama’s average winning margin at the opening of the season against qualified opponents is 23 points.
– Six opponents were classified in the season’s opening match against Alabama. Three of those opponents finished the season ranked.
– Six teams that have faced Alabama in the past 13 years have had the same or better total wins that season than the previous year.
Therefore, seven of the 13 did worse than the previous year when opening against Saban and company. Some of these statistics are incredible.
The athletic teams started very well.
Fifth place in the women’s ranking is the best score the program received in the survey since the 2017 season’s final ranking and the first time Alabama was ranked in the first week.
The Crimson Tide women have seven athletes with marks in the top 10 of their respective events. Tamara Clark owns two of them, the third in the 60m (7.26) and the second in the 200m (22.90). Mercy Chelangat is ranked No. 2 at 5000m (15: 52.19), while Distance Medley Relay is also ranked No. 2 with a time of 11: 54.60.
For men, their ranking in 8th is the best since the final ranking of the 2019 season. The presentations by champion trio Allison, Leander Forbes and Eliud Kipsang last week at the Carolina Challenge put men in the current position.
Charles Barkley is not a fan of fans, at least of the SEC teams.
“When I’m in Alabama, I have friends who say, ‘We’re on CBS this week. Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson hate us. ‘I have Alabama fans saying,’ Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson hate us. ‘ I’m like, ‘Why do you all think that?’
“I said, ‘They don’t give (bad words) who wins. I know these two guys. They don’t (bad words) about Alabama-Auburn football. They are here to do their job.
“But the fans hear what they want (bad words) to hear. It is clear and simple. “
So, there you are, SEC fans. Analysts who call their team’s game don’t care who wins, according to Chuck.
Sir Charles calling other people because they are unpleasant is very rich, but he is funny.
Finally, Trent Richardson will be playing some football this season.
Former Alabama striker Trent Richardson joined Caudillos de Chihuahua, a franchise for Futbol Americano de Mexico. Although he put a shirt with his name and number on his back after his presentation, Richardson remained silent about what he will do with the team.
“My role will be – we will have to warn everyone,” Richardson said at a news conference. “Breaking news will come out soon. But I know that when I get here, I want to win and I’m going to win fans.
