CBS is looking to expand the NCIS franchise outside the contiguous United States.
TVLine discovered that the Eye network is in the early stages of developing a new iteration of NCIS, this takes place in Hawaii. That would mark the third NCIS spinoff and the fourth NCIS general series, joining the mother ship with the title of Mark Harmon, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.
A CBS spokesman declined to comment on this story.
Before the latest entry in the franchise, NCIS: New Orleans, launched in 2014, CBS was developing NCIS: Red, a branch centered on a mobile anti-terrorist unit nicknamed Red Team. The project – which would be starring John Corbett, Kim Raver, Scott Grimes, Edwin Hodge and Gillian Alexy – has not gone beyond the back pilot stage.
THE NCIS The franchise was born through a two-part JAG episode, April 2003, which introduced Gibbs by Mark Harmon, DiNozzo by Michael Weatherly, Abby by Pauley Perrette and Ducky by David McCallum. When NOTCH leads David James Elliott and Catherine Bell briefly reprized their roles as Navy Captain “Harm” Rabb Jr. and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie in NCIS: LA in 2019, there were rumors that CBS was testing the waters for a complete revival of the JAG.
Reacting to the said rumor, NCIS: LA showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said at the time: “I never say never for anything. It’s really up to [CBS]. It is not my decision. “
