Bruce Springsteen was reportedly arrested in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, when he stopped to take pictures with fans – and then took a shot of tequila offered by one of them in sight of the police, said a music industry source.
The “Born to Run” icon, 71, was riding his motorcycle on the peninsula on November 14, when “he was spotted by fans who asked him to stop and take some pictures,” according to a source close to Springsteen.
“Bruce stopped, took the pictures, then a fan offered him a drink, which he took while sitting on his bicycle, which was stopped,” said the source.
“The park police saw what happened and immediately pulled Springsteen out as he walked away.
The Post was unable to immediately verify this account with the authorities.
Springsteen was accused of DWI, driving recklessly and drinking alcohol in an enclosed area, a National Park Service spokesman said.
Asbury Park Press reported that Springsteen’s blood alcohol content was 0.02 – just a quarter of New Jersey’s legal limit – when he was arrested.
The legal limit in New Jersey is 0.08, which the agency said questioned why Springsteen was accused of driving while intoxicated.
The news of the arrest was released a few days after Springsteen appeared and narrated an ad for the Jeep in the Super Bowl, in which he begged Americans to address the political “milieu” in the spirit of unity in the midst of the recent bitter division.
Since then, the ad has been removed from the Jeep YouTube page.
