It is usually the contestants who have problems with The Bachelor, but this time the controversy has grown so much that Chris Harrison is in his grip. On Wednesday, The bachelor The host issued an apology for “perpetuating racism” on social media after defending single candidate Rachel Kirkconnell after photos of her participating in a formal pre-war plantation fraternity ceremony emerged in 2018. Harrison initially defended Kirkconnell in an interview Extra with the first Black Bachelorette, Rachael Lindsay, saying that Kirkconnell was being “thrown to the wolves” by the public. “Although I don’t speak for Rachel Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace by offering her an opportunity to speak for herself,” wrote Harrison. “What I now realize that I did was to cause harm by speaking incorrectly in a way that perpetuates racism, and for that I deeply regret. Harrison went on to apologize to Lindsay specifically for “not hearing her better about a subject she knew firsthand” and promised to “do better” in the future. Kirkconnell, who is involved in several race-related scandals, is still too far in the race to be promised to Matt James, who happens to be the first black bachelor in the franchise’s history. Well, the hometown dates are sure to be interesting this year, right?
