Apparently, everyone who attended the Senate trial earlier in the day, including Trump, was perplexed by Castor’s initial comments, which touched on topics as diverse as ancient Greek democracy and the “extraordinary” bravery of US senators. Trump, in particular, said he found his performances disappointing, especially after filming the impeachment managers at the January 6 House protests.
Even Hannity, a frequent Trump ally who spent his Tuesday show disparaging the impeachment effort, complained about the defense team’s performance. He conducted his interview asking about the lawyers’ long-winded statements, but Schoen responded with an impassive expression about the merits of impeachment in general.
Hannity had to press Schoen over the matter at the end of the interview, saying that “some conservatives called me and said, ‘Wow, we need someone stronger here'”.
Referring to Castor and his law firm, Schoen replied, “There is a lot to say and I know that they think strongly about fighting what they are seeing.”
