Dead teenager, child injured in sleigh accident in New York

A 16-year-old girl died on Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a sleigh accident in Niagara County, New York, officials said.

MPs responded to a report of a sleigh accident on Saturday at about 10:14 am at Clyde L. Burmaster Park in Lewiston, about 30 miles north of Buffalo, said the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Police officers located and identified the victims as a 16-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, according to the sheriff’s office. Police said the two were riding in a sled tube when they hit a tree at the foot of the hill.

Rescue members responded and provided medical assistance to the victims of the accident before being taken to the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

The girl was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival, and the boy was treated and later discharged from the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. It was not clear how serious the injuries were.

None of the victims has been identified publicly by the police.

The accident is being investigated by the Lewiston Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

The hill where the accident occurred closed after the accident.

Lewiston is a small town with a population of around 16,000 people.
