While I firmly believe that the PlayStation 5 has a much more attractive design than the Xbox Series X, I can understand why some find the Xbox’s geometric, boxy design softer. It’s traditional, bordering on common sense, and straight lines seem like the logical decision in today’s hyperminimalist world, where almost all of our gadgets are rectangular. Although, as square and straightforward as the Xbox Series X is, it just isn’t a PlayStation … right?
If you’re a PlayStation enthusiast who finds himself ‘questioning’ the console’s organic design, Ismail Mits has a commitment for you. Its PlayStation 5 concept features a geometric design that looks like a well-calibrated mix between Sony and Microsoft styles. The conceptual console is shaped like an extruded right triangle. Its dynamic design allows you to keep it on your desk anyway, and the triangular top matches well with the triangular icon often used in PlayStation visuals. The doors are located on the widest face, while a well-positioned slot in the front acts as the disk drive. The PS5 concept ‘boxy, but not boxy’ follows the same color palette as the original design Stormtrooper and still features the same blue lighting, albeit at the base of the device, allowing it to spread across the floor or across the TV cabinet a beautiful sky blue wash when the console turns on!
