Retro touches on the way

Ford’s modern Bronco hasn’t even made it to dealerships, but the automaker is already preparing some new variants.

One will be a high-performance model similar to a Raptor (we think it will be called a Warthog), and another seems to be a retro-inspired model, judging from our latest spy photos.

The spy photos show what looks like a normal Bronco prototype in heavy camouflage gear, but if you look a little closer, you’ll notice some unique elements.

The most obvious difference from previous Bronco prototypes is the wheel design, which appears to mimic the four-slot wheels found in the original Bronco of the 1960s. We bet they even have a white finish, as in the original.

Another clue is the white grid at the front. If you look closely, you will also see some splashes of red through the camouflage equipment. The red sections probably spell “Ford” or “Bronco”, another throwback to the original Bronco. A custom 1968 Bronco owned by Jay Leno suggests what’s to come.

There are no pictures of the interior, but you can count on some retro tips here too.

Ford launched special Heritage Edition versions of its GT supercar, and perhaps this is the same name the automaker will use in its retro-inspired Bronco. Currently, we expect the new variant to arrive later this year as a 2022 model.

The modern Bronco was originally supposed to start deliveries this spring, but Ford postponed it until summer. The basic engine is a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 rated at 270 hp, which can be purchased with a 7-speed manual or 10-speed automatic. Above that is a 2.7-liter twin-engine V-6, good for 310 hp, which can only be obtained with the automatic. The Bronco 2021 starting price is $ 29,995, including destination.
