The production of the 5th season of Fox’s reality show is scheduled to start on Thursday, with new episodes scheduled to open in March.
Like almost all other reality shows, “The masked singer” was impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But very few of them have seen this impact change the very face of the show.
And yet, when the 5th season of the hit show starts in March, it will have to be done without the presenter, Nick Cannon, according Variety. After Cannon unexpectedly tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the network sought to find a replacement instead of delaying production.

Therefore, although Cannon is reportedly quarantined and at rest – it has not been declared whether he is symptomatic – Niecy Nash is entering the scene to guide the highest rated competition.
Although most quarantines last at least two weeks, it is unclear how this can appear on the screen. Usually filmed in complete secrecy, it has never been revealed how many episodes are filmed per week.
Based on the speakers’ wardrobes Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger – that all four are coming back – it looks like entire rounds of the competition can be filmed on the same day.
At the same time, it is possible that the cast will only be asked to wear the same outfit for an entire round for the sake of continuity and to allow producers and editors some flexibility in the way they set up their episodes.

Nash is no stranger to Fox’s reality show competition, either, having previously appeared as a guest speaker. She also stopped by Jeong’s show “I Can See Your Voice” a few times, becoming a friend of the network’s strangest programming.
While Variety reports that Fox expects Cannon to return at some point later in the season, there is obviously no way to guarantee if and when it will happen at this point.
With the program following strict security protocols, it would have to test negative at the very least before being authorized and there is no way to predict how fast this could happen. At least they know that the series will be in very good and funny hands.
“The Masked Singer” is scheduled to return to Fox next month after the inaugural season of “The Masked Dancer” – hosted by Craig Robinson – will end in a few weeks.
