Gameplay for the canceled 007 GoldenEye remastered leaked online in a two-hour video.
As seen by VGC, the entire game, from the start of the Dam to the final credits, was shared on YouTube, giving us a look at what a GoldenEye port might look like.
The Xbox 360 version of Nintendo’s classic game would reportedly be released via Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Live Arcade. For various copyright reasons, it was canceled despite being, as you can see in the video, basically completed in full.
GoldenEye was supposed to be published by Microsoft in partnership with Activision, after reaching an agreement with Nintendo to completely remaster the legendary game from the original version of the N64 released in 1997. In the end, the project was discarded.
As you can see in the video, the entire game looks completely playable. Considering how many rights issues appear to be involved in the game, it would not be surprising if the game footage ended up being taken down.
The video description explains that the footage was captured using an emulator. “Footage of the canceled GoldenEye XBLA 2007 remake, full game on Agent 00”, says the video description on YouTube.
The game first leaked in 2008, but now is the first time we’ve seen so much of the project. According to Microsoft chief Phil Spencer, Xbox always wanted to bring GoldenEye back, but in 2015 Spencer tweeted and subsequently destroyed any hope of seeing the game remastered.
His tweet says: “GoldenEye rights are so challenging, seen this many times. Many different parts to work with, we always give up. “
So far, the only way to play the original GoldenEye is on the N64, but there are modern alternatives like GoldenEye: Source made by a fan, who recreated the multiplayer mode.
But if you’re looking for more James Bond, you can take comfort in knowing that IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, is currently working hard to make Project 007 to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
