1 arrested, 1 wanted in fatal shot at SC teacher

ORANGEBURG, SC (AP) – A man has been arrested and authorities are looking for a second man who could be linked to a teacher’s death shot in South Carolina.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said Aloysius Green, 18, was charged with the shooting death of Karl Williams, 49, a popular professor in Orangeburg County, the media reported. Investigators said Williams was shot in December when he responded to a knock on his door.

When deputies responded to a shootout, they found Williams “lying on the floor inside the door without responding and appeared to have been shot in the torso in the torso,” said a police report. A woman, who also lives in the house, was sitting on the floor next to Williams, the report said.

The woman was not hurt.

Bullets hit the house seven times and Williams’ 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was also damaged, officials said.

Green was also charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting last week. It is not known if he has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Investigators said they were still looking for another crime suspect, 18-year-old Pelion Guinyard of Pelion. Anyone with information about Guinyard’s whereabouts should call the sheriff’s office at 803-534-3550 or Midlands Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372.
