  • The owners of the Samsung Galaxy S21 have found that the phone does not yet support the perfect Android updates.
  • You will have to restart your phone whenever there is a system update.
  • It is not certain why Samsung did not adopt the technology.

Don’t expect to silently update your Galaxy S21 in the background while you perform other tasks. 9to5Google, Brandon Lee and others have found that the new Samsung phone series does not support flawless Android updates, despite the tips Google may require from Android 11 onwards.

Omitting Samsung’s continuous updates will leave you installing the Galaxy S21 patches the old way – that is, restarting your phone and leaving it inoperative for a few minutes. It may seem archaic, especially when Google first introduced the continuous update with Android 7.0 Nougat in 2016.

The company has not explained why it is not using perfect updates with the Galaxy S21. We asked Samsung if he can elaborate.

Storage can play a role. Perfect updates on Android consume about 3 GB of storage due to partitioning – Samsung may be reluctant to consume that space, especially when the Galaxy S21 family does not support microSD cards. The inconvenience can be worthwhile if you free up valuable space for your applications and media.

This does not prevent Samsung from introducing perfect updates in the future. We wouldn’t count on that, however, and it won’t be surprising if any changes occur just when that 3 GB of space becomes trivial for many users. For now, you’ll have to find something else to do while your Galaxy device installs patches – and time these updates accordingly.
