One person is dead and others were seriously injured after a tour bus bound for the Grand Canyon hit Arizona on Friday, the sheriff’s office said.
The tour bus, run by a Las Vegas company, was carrying 48 people, including the driver, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
It rolled and fell on its side at about 12:20 pm on Diamond Bar Road, en route to the Grand Canyon National Park, officials said.
One person was killed, two others were in critical condition and seven others were also taken to a hospital with less serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Another thirty-three people on the bus had minor injuries.
The name of the tour bus company and where it left off were not disclosed in the sheriff’s deposition. The accident is under investigation, he said.
Photos from the scene showed the overturned bus. Some people on social media described helping to get people off the bus.
The Arizona Red Cross tweeted that it was monitoring the situation. The agency offers shelter and other assistance to those in need after accidents and disasters.
The Grand Canyon West is about 200 kilometers by car from downtown Las Vegas. It is located in the Hualapai Reserve west of the Grand Canyon National Park and has attractions like the Skywalk, which stretches for about 21 meters along the canyon rim.
