First lady thanks National Guard troops with cookies

“I can’t say I baked alone,” she said, adding, “I wanted to give everyone a cookie as a small thank you for your service and the service of your family.”

More than 25,000 National Guard soldiers were deployed to help protect the United States Capitol from potential security problems before Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.

Unprecedented precautions ensured that the new president and vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, took office without incident in a ceremony outside the United States Capitol, two weeks after a crowd attacked the building in a failed attempt to prevent Congress to certify its victory.

The floor is yours.

JILL BIDEN: Thanks. I just wanted to come today to thank you all for keeping me and my family safe. And I know that you left your home state. The Bidens are a family of the National Guard. Our son Beau was from the Delaware Army National Guard. He served for a year in Iraq in 2008-2009, so I am a mother of the National Guard.

And when I saw, you know, the great job you did during the opening and everything you did, and you left your home state and came here to protect us, I just wanted to say thank you from President Biden, and all – the whole Biden family.

So the White House made some chocolate chip cookies for you. I can’t say that I baked it myself, but I wanted to give everyone a cookie as just a small thank you for the service you have provided to your families and for all that you have done for our nation and to tell you that I really appreciate you, all that they can do.

All right. Friends, fall and close it. Let’s take a group photo, huh?

There is. Bring it inside

JILL BIDEN: Ask him to get another one.

Impressive.

JILL BIDEN: We can have another one, and she will … I feel like I should go down.

No no no no.

And if you like, ma’am, I can give you my hat or my coat. The poor man kneels.
