Acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli warned on Monday of an increase in coronavirus transmissions with thousands of migrants expected to reach the U.S.-Mexico border in the first weeks of the next Biden government.
More than 3,000 Honduran migrants moved to Guatemala on Friday as part of a larger caravan that left a Honduran city earlier in the day on its way to the United States. They expect a warmer welcome when they reach the border in light of President-elect pledges to reverse the Trump administration’s policies on border security and illegal immigration.

“When these caravans appear and really [thoughought] the whole flow of illegal immigrants, Sean, they are in difficult conditions that they do not control with people who do not care about them, “Cuccinelli told” Hannity “.
“We are going to be very clear about that,” he added. “It is an absolute opportunity for a human Petri dish to transmit a virus that has been shown to be transmissible, and so we have to worry about this new strain now.”

Cuccinelli said the growing border increase “is not a surprise or shock to anyone”, but warned the Biden government that its reduced immigration policies will yield “much more than you expected”.
“Although I don’t like, appreciate or think it’s consistent with the law, it’s not like Joe Biden has meddled with anyone with that, right?” Cuccinelli said.
“I mean, this is what he said he would do. And what we were saying together with the Department of Homeland Security is hey, look, you’re going to get a lot more than you expected.”

Biden has pledged to end the Migrant Protection Protocols, which keep migrants in Mexico pending their political asylum hearings. The Trump administration said the program helped end the so-called “attraction factors” that bring migrants north, but critics say the policy is cruel and puts asylum seekers at risk.
Biden also promised a path to legal permanent residence for those in the country illegally and a moratorium on ICE deportations.
