Old Gilmore Girls actor David Sutcliffe clarified everything about the Capitol rebellion, addressing the so-called rumors that he participated in the January 6 attack in DC that left five dead.

Quoting a tweet from a video of a rowdy man smoking marijuana inside the Capitol, Sutcliffe wrote on Saturday: “There are rumors circulating that I ‘invaded the capital’. It’s not true – although I would be proud to share a cigarette with this great Patriot! “

Sutcliffe is best known for playing Lorelai’s ex (Lauren Graham) and Rory’s father (Alexis Bledel) in a long dramatic comedy Gilmore Girls. He starred in 37 episodes of the series, which ran from 2001 to 2007, and also made an appearance in the 2016 Netflix miniseries. Gilmore Girls: One year in life.

A veteran actor, Sutcliffe made his TV debut in 1995 on the Canadian series Forever Knight. He also starred in Under the Tuscan sun, cake, and Private office, and his last roles included invited places in Insecure in 2017 and The Romanoffs in 2018. Sutcliffe retired from acting a year later and is now a life coach.

EW contacted Sutcliffe for comment.

Although he hasn’t spoken publicly about politics like other celebrities, Sutcliffe recently liked tweets proclaiming “Male politics is the best for the world” and beating “the authoritarian left.” He too tweeted on January 10 that, when Donald Trump dies, he will become “a symbol of rebellion and replace Che Guevara on T-shirts”.

Many stars have denounced the Capitol rebellion, although conservative actor Kevin Sorbo has shown support for the Trump base and spread conspiracy theories about the attack. His ex-costar Lucy Lawless hit him, writing that rioters are “the idiots who go out and do the evil orders of people like you, who like to roll them up like toys and let them do their worst.”
