Nintendo continues to support UK game retail | UK Box Charts

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is number 1 again

Animal Crossing: New Horizons secures its third consecutive position at No. 1 on the UK charts.

The exclusive Nintendo Switch guarantees its place at the top, despite a 24% drop in sales week after week. It’s another week in which Switch dominated the UK box game business, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at No.2 (sales below 23%), Super Mario 3D World at No.8 (sales at 3%) , New Super Mario Bros U in 9th position (drop of 15% in sales) and Ring Fit Adventure in 10th position (drop of 37%). There are 10 Switch games in the 20 best-selling games.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2021 holds third place, despite a 29% drop in sales. This week, 87% of the game’s sales were on Nintendo Switch.

Switch is proving to be the savior for UK boxed retailers. In the first two weeks of 2021, game sales increased by 27.4% compared to the same period last year, and this is almost entirely due to Nintendo Switch games (in general, sales of Switch games increased by 120% in the year-to-date). Sales of PlayStation games also increase slightly if we combine sales of PS4 and PS5 games.

The only Top Ten game to increase sales week after week was the ever popular Grand Theft Auto 5, which climbs four places to 4th place due to a 6% increase in sales.

There is only one new game on the charts this week, and it is the first new game to break the Top 40 of 2021. Five Nights At Freddy’s: Core Collection hits number 32, published by Maximum Games. 55% of its sales were on Nintendo Switch, 24% on PS4 and 21% on Xbox One.
